Unseen Unheard Unknown
Unseen Unheard Unknown documents my journey into spiritual enlightenment through experimental processes of staging scenes and performance, to create a nonlinear narrative responding to ideas around religiosity and the sacred.
Focusing on the theatrical nature of religious practises as an aesthetic form, the series takes on different processes of achieving a spiritual revelation, and how many forms of traditional and non-traditional practises mimic one another in their repetitive and highly curated ceremonial form.
“Like sympathetic magic, transcendental experiences are lived and conveyed through the ambiguity of the photograph, as encountered in the work of Ophelia Bakowski. Investigating the unseen and the unheard, these works converse with identity and healing, forming communion with the sacred and the unknown self.”
